Meditations for Lent (Poems)

The Faces of Jesus is a series of poems that I wrote at the request of the senior pastor and worship committee of Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo, North Dakota, where I was a member for a time. Based on the gospel for each Sunday, the poems were used as calls to worship at midweek evening Lenten services in 1993. I wrote one each week, attempting to match the mood and message suggested by the scripture passages that were provided to me by the pastors. The calls to worship were favorably received, and so the staff decided to make a booklet of them to give to all the members of the congregation and to use for the Holy Week luncheon meditations at the church.
