Forgotten Embroidery

Forgotten

Looking through the box of sewing supplies for a needle (one of my store-bought skirts has split a seam), I came across my embroidery basket, in which I found the last piece I’d worked on, using a frame as a makeshift hoop.

Since Al and I married—23 years ago, now— and brought home a second puppy in July of the next year, I have embroidered or cross-stitched almost nothing. Our dogs, even though Cocker Spaniels, have always considered themselves to be lap dogs, which put a quick end to fine needlework. Sam’s an only dog, now, and spending lap time with Al. I just might take up needlework again.

  1. I used to love counted cross stitching when I was younger. I may have to see if my daughter may like it too! Thank you for the memory.

  2. I was a counted cross-stitch addict for years, before my vision declined. I especially like the words in what you’ve displayed–indeed, prayer is crucial.
